Good morning Year Three,
I hope you are all still well and staying safe. Today I am setting you another CHALLENGE.
It’s important that while you are at home you are keeping your maths skills sharp, a great way to do this is to use money. Have a look around the house and politely ask family members if they have any spare change that you can use.
Once you have the money, start by separating the coins into groups, make a pile for 1p pieces, 2p pieces and so on, can you work out how much of each coin you have?
Next challenge, can you now add up your totals and work out how much money you have altogether?
Step 3, mix all the coins up again and put them all into a bag or box, pick out 2 coins with your eyes closed and quickly add them up – how quickly can you do that?
Want a harder challenge? Pick out 3 coins and add them up as quickly as you can in your head.
Feeling like an expert? Can you do this with 4 or 5 coins?
Finally, involve some arts and crafts, make yourself a lovely shop counter and find some items from round the house, stick some prices on the items and give out some money to people in your house, ask them to come and visit your shop, what can they buy with their money… would they need any change?
As always, if you are able and happy to, please post some pictures on Twitter, I would love to see your shop counters. If I was to make a shop I think it would be called Mr Prince’s Peculiar Pet Shop and I would sell a range of exotic animals.
