This week Class 2 have had a lot of fun creating their own glove puppets! They took inspiration from this term’s History topic of Seaside Holidays and the Punch and Judy shows which were very popular in Victorian times. Using their designs from last week, the children used a card template to carefully cut out shaped pieces of felt. Then they used a running stitch to join the two pieces of fabric together. The best part of the lesson was adding decorations by sewing on eyes, ears, buttons, mouths etc… The children have created wonderful, appealing puppets and they quickly gained confidence threading their own needles, though tying knots was the tricky part! Mrs Smith and Mrs Troy were very impressed by their diligent, careful work.
We finished our history topic by asking when and how seaside holidays became popular. We learned that the Royal Family were very keen on trips to the seaside, especially King George III and holidays became popular and more accessible with the arrival of the train. Year 2 are very keen historians and love learning about the past!
Finally, this week along with Reception Class and Year 1, Year 2 spent Tuesday afternoon learning German! They quickly mastered some basic phrases, including greetings and numbers to ten. They are looking forward to learning more German in the future.
Have a relaxing and enjoyable half term holiday!
From Mrs Smith and Mrs Troy and Jack.
