Second Week of Remote Learing!

15th January 2021 By francesstephenson

Happy Friday Year Five!

I would like to thank you all for another wonderful week of work. It has been jam-packed with lots of fantastic learning (at both home and school).

In our R.E. we have been looking at the work of Isaiah and in our Science lessons, we have been learning about States of Matter. We have also enjoyed some reading for pleasure sessions this week too!

Ellen produced this excellent work on relative clauses in our English lesson this week…

and Harry R.H. added all of his knowledge about relative clauses to produce this wonderful piece of writing from home:

I am so excited for next week girls and boys as we will be beginning our class text, Oranges in No Man’s Land by Elizabeth Laird.

See you all next week.

Have a lovely weekend and stay safe.

Mrs. Forrest

Home Learning Week 2

15th January 2021 By francesstephenson

Reception have worked their socks off again this week!

Yesterday we created some wonderful, snowy pictures using cold colours. The children got very creative using all different bits that they had at home including the snow itself! Take a look at our wintery artwork.

Jensen made us all smile this week by sharing a musical masterpiece. You can see this on our homepage.

A fantastic week of remote learning!

14th January 2021 By francesstephenson

Year 3 have had a fantastic week once again!

We started the week by learning all about the Jewish faith and designed our very own Torah mantle which is used to cover and protect the Torah scroll. We looked at the features of the mantle and noticed that the Star of David was often featured as well as expensive material and beautiful decoration.

In Science, we have been focussing on our topic all about ‘rocks’. The children in school and at home have been working extremely hard using Oak National Academy and have completed a range of lessons all about the formation of rocks and the rock cycle. We also studied how fossils are made and looked at real fossils – Mrs Patterson even brought in her very own fossil to show us all!

We have enjoyed recapping our knowledge of homophones in English, using our times-table knowledge in Maths and loved continuing to read our class book, ‘The Iron Man’ by Ted Hughes. The children have worked so hard and I thank everyone who have helped to support them at home and in school. Well done Year 3, keep up the fantastic work and effort!

A New Way of Learning in the New Year.

8th January 2021 By francesstephenson

It certainly has not been the return to school I was expecting but we made it the end of the first week and I have thoroughly enjoyed learning with you all!

I wish I could share all of your work but I have just chosen a few examples to show all of the hard work that you have been doing this week.

This is just a tiny snippet of the incredible work Reception have produced this week. The class have been so resilient – you would think we had been teaching this way for a long time! I am incredibly proud of each and every one of you.

Thank you to all of the grown ups that have supported the children at home. We appreciate it is difficult to juggle a range of responsibilities with remote learning but you have all been so dedicated and cooperative.

I hope you all have a restful weekend – you deserve it!

The Most Wonderful Time of the Year!

18th December 2020 By francesstephenson

Reception are full of Christmas spirit this week! We have enjoyed many festivities including our Christmas party and a pantomime. We are looking forward to our end of term treat this afternoon – a Christmas movie (and maybe even some popcorn!)

We had the most magical experience on Monday as we visited Winter Wonderland to see Santa’s reindeer, make smores on the fire and drink hot chocolate – all before seeing Santa Clause himself (and his funny friend Olaf!)

We have also been learning all about the very first Christmas. We dressed up and performed our very own class Nativity!

It really is the most wonderful time of year!

We made it, Year 3!

17th December 2020 By francesstephenson

What a jam packed week we have had! We kick started the week with our Christmas party which we all absolutely loved! We played classic party games like pass the parcel, corners, pin the nose on Rudolph, musical statues and musical bumps. We also loved completing Christmas activities and enjoyed our lovely Christmas party food! On Tuesday, we were delighted to visit Lanchester EP School and be part of the wonderful Winter Wonderland. We learnt all about amazing birds of prey, how to roast marshmallows, drank hot chocolate (and squirty cream!) and even visited Santa Claus at his grotto – what a treat! We also enjoyed our pantomine on Thursday – the children LOVE The Wizard of Oz! Well done Year 3 for a fantastic term. You have all worked very hard and Miss Walker and Mrs Patterson wish you all a lovely Christmas and a happy New Year.

Ralphie (the not so clever elf)

11th December 2020 By francesstephenson

Ralphie the Elf has been very busy this week whilst we’ve been asleep. He’s been writing sentences on the board, ordering numbers to 10 and matching the correct amount of teddy bears to the numeral.

He has not done any of these jobs well though (sorry Ralphie!) Luckily Reception class have been fantastic teachers and helped him do the job correctly!

We also enjoyed wearing our Christmas jumpers yesterday and eating our delicious Christmas dinner!

Another exciting week!

10th December 2020 By francesstephenson

Year 3 kick started the week by taking part in their music performance as well as their Christmas dance in Church which were both fantastic! In English this week, Year 3 focussed on a well-known Christmas Advert from 2014 known as ‘ The First World War Truce’ which retold the story of Christmas Day in 1914, when opposing British and German soldiers emerged from their trenches to exchange gifts and play football. The children were mesmerised by the clip and even clapped at the end after their emotional watch. We then imagined being in Jim’s shoes (the British soldier featured in the video) and created a mood board to show how we would be feeling across different stages of that day in 1914 as well as what we could hear and what we did – the children did a fantastic job.

On Thursday, we all wore our jolly Christmas jumpers and loved wearing our Christmas hats (we also had the pleasure of seeing Mrs Patterson’s turkey hat!) whilst enjoying our wonderful Christmas lunch courtesy of All Saints’ kitchen staff – yum, yum, yum!

It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas!

4th December 2020 By francesstephenson

Christmas is in full swing in Reception class this week. We have been very busy creating our Christmas crafts and practising our performance.

Our classroom has had a festive makeover. The children have loved exploring the new resources. They have dressed up as Mary, Joseph, Shepherds and Kings to retell the Christmas story and helped wrap presents in Santa’s workshop.

We have also had a very special guest arrive in Reception…

What a lovely week!

4th December 2020 By francesstephenson

As it was the start of Advent last Sunday, Year 3 have been reflecting on their Advent promises and learning about the visitation, when Angel Gabriel visited Mary to tell her that she was going to have a baby boy called Jesus. The children then imagined what it would have been like to have been Mary and to be visited by an angel unexpectedly. Lots of children thought she would have been frightened at first but pleased that God had chosen her to have the son of God. Year 3 then wrote a diary entry from Mary’s perspective and they all did a fantastic job! I wish I could show all of the children’s work but here is just one example. We have also been busy practising our lovely Christmas dance (the children can’t wait to perform it!) and making our Christmas crafts this week. We have really enjoyed learning how to cross stitch and really appreciate Mrs Patterson’s help working with small groups to introduce the children to the method of cross stitching.
