We have been learning how to draw theViking knots that they used in their art. It was quite tricky!
Summer 2 Week 1
In R.E. we have been learning about Moses and the Ten Commandments. We discussed what life was like for the Israelites after they were freed from Egypt and why God’s Law was necessary.
In English we have tried to write from another character’s point of view and discovered that this can change a story completely. We wrote in the first person and tried to use past tense throughout.
In Maths we have been looking at equivalent fractions and converting fractions so that they have a common denominator in order to add and subtract them.
Summer 1 Week 5
In R.E. we have started our new topic by thinking about what freedom means. We decided as a class that it doesn’t just mean doing whatever you want, and that it comes with responsibility.
In English we have learned about the differences between formal and informal letter writing. We used the formal method to alert the authorities to the suspicious events on Exeter Moor.
In Maths we have been working on our speed and accuracy when adding and subtracting using the column method. We have also learned to check our work using the inverse operation.
Summer 1 Week 4
In R.E. we looked at the fruits of the Holy Spirit. We tried to decide which we would choose to transform our lives and help other people.
In English the characters in our book have been faced with a moral dilemma. We have thought of reasons for and against David and Tucky helping the German pilots and presented a balanced argument.
In Maths we have been reading coordinates to translate shapes in the first quadrant, and also to reflect shapes in the y axis.
In Science we have finished off out topic by drawing line graphs to show the times of sunrise and sunset throughout the year. Then we used our graphs to answer questions about the different amount of daylight in each month of the year.
Summer Week 3
In R.E. we have been learning about Saul and his journey to Damascus. We tried to imagine what this journey was like and how it changed his life.
In English we have been breaking down the events so far in ‘Friend or Foe’ in order to write a recount of a chapter.
In Maths we have been working with decimal numbers. We can multiply and divide them by 10, 100 and 1000, and can also round them to the nearest tenth and hundredth.
In Art we have been recreating the work of Arcimboldo in different ways.
Summer Week 2
In R.E. we have started our new topic about Pentecost. To begin, we thought carefully about what gives us energy that helps us.
In English we have tried hard to improve our descriptive writing, using relative clauses to add extra interest to our description of David and Tucky’s first day in their new school.
In Maths we have been practising our multiplication skills, moving from short multiplication to long multiplication.
In Art we are learning about an Italian artist called Giuseppe Arcimboldo whose paintings were very unusual!
Summer Week 1
In R.E. we have been planning our Liturgy ready to finish off our topic today.
In English we have started reading ‘Friend or Foe’ by Michael Morpurgo, and using the evidence in the text to help us describe a character.
We have also been describing our favourite moments from our exciting trip to Northumberland.
In Maths we have been adding and subtracting amounts of money mentally, which we found out in Seahouses is a very important life skill!
Spring 2 Week 5
In R.E. we have been thinking about the word ‘giving’ and have tried to use as many words as possible associated with it.
In Maths we have been multiplying fractions for the first time.
In Art we have had great fun using poster paint and balloons to recreate the planets of our solar system.
Test Week
In R.E. we have been learning about an organisation called L’Arche who volunteer to help look after people with learning disabilities. We thought carefully about what sort of caring qualities you would need for this job.
In Science we have had great fun identifying different constellations and exploring the NASA Kids Club website which is full of amazing facts.
In Geography we have learned all about the features of rivers.
Science Week
In R.E. we have looked carefully at Luke’s Gospel and learned about the Last Supper, linking it to the Eucharist and what happens today.
We have had a week packed full of Science, learning all about our solar system and how all of the planets orbit the Sun. We’ve learned which order the planets go in and have created fact files about them.
In Art we have been looking at the beautiful colours of the planets and using oil pastels and chalks to draw them.
We had so much fun during our trip to Beamish, including helping the chemist find a cure for indigestion!
