Welcome Reception Class!

Reception Class have had a fantastic week settling into their new classroom. They have explored every inch of both the indoors and the outdoors and have had great fun whilst doing so! We can’t wait to see what next week brings. Well done to all the children for such a fabulous start to their school careers.

Summer Week 5

This week Reception Class have been incredibly busy!

In R.E. this week we have continued learning about ‘Pentecost’.

We used role-play to help us understand what happened. 

Following that we made streamers to decorate our prayer table with. They say ‘Share the Good News’.

In Literacy this week we wrote in our ‘Black Pen Writing’ books and wrote about the life cycle of a chick. 

In Numeracy this week we began to learn how to half an amount.

We first looked at the meaning of half. We discussed it is when we split something into two equal amounts. We then played a problem solving game to find the treat using our knowledge of halving!

We have also enjoyed mixing colours this week and creating butterflies! We used the colours red, blue and yellow to make green, purple and orange.

Summer Week 3

Reception Class have been busy bees again this week!

In R.E we continued with our writing about ‘Pentecost’.

In Literacy we read the story ‘Farmyard Hullabaloo’. This linked with our school trip to Hall Hill Farm.

In Numeracy we continued to use our number line but instead of adding we subtracted.

We also enjoyed a trip to Hall Hill Farm. We did not let the rain stop us from having plenty fun!

Summer Week 2

Reception Class have been extremely busy this week!

In R.E we began to learn about the religious story of ‘Pentecost’.

We used role play to help us understand it.

Following that some of us began to write about the stories and some made windmills to see the effects of the wind.

We will continue with this next week.

In Literacy this week we completed some work for our class display board in the corridor.

We wrote the lyrics to our favourite song ‘Tadpole Blues’.

We also created art for this.

In Numeracy this week we practised adding by counting on. We used a number line to support us.

We also managed to find some time to enjoy the outdoors!

Summer Week 1

Welcome back after the Easter break!

In R.E this week we started our new topic ‘Good News’.

We spoke about how it feels to receive good news and then wrote about some good news that we had received.

We have started our new topic ‘Life Cycles’ this week.

We began our topic by looking at the frog life cycle.

In Numeracy we have been working with money. We have been looking at how to count amounts of money with numicon.

Spring Week 12

Reception Class have had a lovely week!

We began our week by introducing our new R.E topic ‘Growing’.

We went on a walk around school to search for new life and discussed how we care for new life. We also talked about how we can grow to be more like Jesus during the period of Lent.

In Literacy this week we wrote about the ‘Easter Story’.

In Maths this week we looked at how we can measure time. We used an egg timer and an interactive timer on the board. We completed different activities in a minute.

Reception Class had a fantastic afternoon create their Easter’s eggs! Well done Reception you all worked so hard!

Spring Week 10

Reception Class have had a lovely week!

This week in R.E we introduced our new topic ‘Gathering’. We discussed how it makes us feel when we gather together as a class and when we work together as a team.

we enjoyed a game of duck duck goose and then played a team game.

In Literacy this week we planned a healthy lunch box to take on our space adventure.

In Numeracy we have enjoyed subtracting with skittles.

Reception have also continued their music and dance sessions with Mrs Days which they are enjoying so much! This week they went on a space adventure where they met aliens! They then created their own alien and demonstrated how they would move.

Spring Week 9 – Science Week

Another busy but fun week in Reception Class!

This week has been ‘Science Week’. The children have enjoyed learning about what it’s like to live in space. They enjoyed their movement and dance session with Mrs Days where they pretended to be in space.

They have also enjoyed helping to create their very own rocket for the role play area! They explored the names of the 3D shapes used to create the rocket.

We also discovered that rockets have parachutes to help slow them down! We created our own parachutes for our small counter bears and will test them tomorrow!

In Numeracy this week we created Numicon rockets and added the two amounts together to find out how big they are!

In Literacy this week we have been reading ‘Aliens who Love Underpants’.We then wrote about the aliens that we met on our space adventure.

Reception Class are definitely ready for the weekend! Enjoy!

Spring Week 8

Reception Class have been incredibly busy this week.

On Thursday it was ‘World Book Day’. Reception Class all came dressed up as one of their favourite characters and they all looked fantastic!

We enjoyed a visit to the library to choose some new books!

In Literacy this week we enjoyed writing about the story ‘The Little House that didn’t have a home’.

On ‘World Book Day’ we were lucky enough to meet the author Nick Sullivan.

In Numeracy this week we have enjoyed playing board games such as ‘Snakes and Ladders’ and ‘Dominoes’.

On Tuesday Reception Class also enjoyed watching some pancakes being made. Then they got to taste them and they were delicious!

Spring Week 7

In R.E this week Reception Class were introduced to the ‘Easter Story’. Once fimiliar with the story we started our Stations of the Cross work. Reception Class are focusing on how Jesus cared for others.

In Numeracy we have enjoyed learning all about 3D shapes.

First we created rockets using the shapes!

After that we then began to look at their properties.

We then looked at different ways of sorting the shapes.

Shapes with no curved faces and shapes with curved face.

Circle faces and squares faces.

In Literacy we designed our own space rocket to take up to space!

Reception Class have enjoyed dancing and moving in different ways to space music!

We also enjoyed an afternoon in the sun experimenting with the water!
